In 2005, astrophysicist Pierce van der Meer made a sensational statement. According to him, in the last century, the temperature of the sun is constantly increasing. Such a process, as a rule, is observed before the metamorphosis of an ordinary star into a supernova. Thus, the scientist predicted in six years the inevitable explosion of the Sun and, as a result, the death of all life on Earth. But the prominences recorded by NASA did not indicate any major changes on our star, and the global warming of the past century is associated with the greenhouse effect, a “by-product” of human activity. Thus, the news of the “Day of Judgment” turned out to be somewhat premature.

What is the actual temperature of the sun?

This question agitated scientists for many centuries to that. Undoubtedly, our star is very hot, because it gives heat, being many thousands of kilometers from Earth.But only in the twentieth century, astrophysicists managed to calculate its more or less accurate temperature. It turned out that it differs depending on the proximity to the core of a celestial body. In its middle, it is as much as fifteen and a half million degrees Celsius (or 27 million degrees Fahrenheit). The top layer of the helium-hydrogen atmosphere of the star is heated to a million degrees, and on the surface the temperature of the Sun Celsius is 5515 degrees.

How do we know this?

Naturally, not a single cosmonaut or a ship controlled from Earth flew to our star with a thermometer. However, the temperature of the Sun in degrees can be laboratory calculated from spectral radiation. The star seems to us yellow. If it were hot, we would call our sun blue ... Although it would hardly be anyone to call him, because the emergence of protein life on Earth at such sizzling temperatures would be impossible. If the center of our star system were colder, it would appear reddish. Studying the radiation of a star through the color spectrum, the scientists found out the following: the temperature on the star's surface is lower than everything, and deeper to the core, the heat is greater.

But astrophysicists use a different metric system - Kelvin. The last scale and Celsius system is easy to compare. After all, they have only zero does not match. Celsius took the freezing point of water as the reference point, and Kelvin took the absolute zero. It is minus 273 degrees, just such a cold reigns in the airless space of the Cosmos. Thus, the temperature of the Sun, measured on a scientific scale, is equal to 5800 degrees Kelvin on the surface, and in the core - 15 500 273 K. Will these indicators change with time? Sure! All the stars - and the Sun is not an exception - are once born, are gaining in mass, transforming into a red giant. And then aging begins: first, the celestial body becomes a white dwarf (representing one core, without a crown), then a black dwarf until it explodes with the Supernova. But our luminary, according to estimates by serious scientists, is left to warm humanity for about five billion years.
